DRHorton builds homes, quickly. They more or less meet building codes, but don't expect high quality.
They use cheap labor and cheap materials to get the house built fast. In our case, the company they hired to paint the exterior of our house did not use primer, and we suspect they watered down the paint as well. Over the course of 2 to 3 years, this lack of primer has caused our Hardyboard to grow mold and the paint to fade incredibly. They had an inspector come out to test multiple houses in the development and the inspector said "normal for this to happen." Well, yeah, normal if the painter "forgets" to use primer (deliberately or not)!
For other things we needed to have repaired, it sometimes took 2 tries, but they took care of it (except for the exterior paint).
Note that "builder-grade" materials does not mean "high quality"; it means "lowest quality to still be able to pass inspections." Many other things in the house are sub-par quality, but nothing that will cause the house to collapse. At least, we hope not.
Review about: Dr Horton House Construction.
Reason of review: Bad quality.
I liked: Decent price, Good location, Project manager during the build, Layout.
I didn't like: Exterior paint job, Responsiveness to paint complaints, Hvac system not efficient, Poor landscaping choices.
