We purchased our property in December 2006. We were not the original buyer, so second owner. The first owner had never occupied the property, so we were the first to do so. It was clear from the outset that DR Horton could not build a home that complied with code at any stage. Outside tap connected to the hot water supply. Ceiling down in the second bathroom. Tiles missing from both bathrooms. Lower floor windows would not close properly. Signs of water leaks to the ground floor ceiling. Several socket outlets not fitted with wiring just taped up. The list just goes on.

Anyway, DR Horton's site personnel attended and corrected several of the faults but insisted it may not be covered by warranty as we were the second owner.

Within one month, the water leak as observed on the lower ceiling occurred again. This time it brought the ceiling down in the lounge area. We called a plumber who found the fault to be incomplete jointing of the drainage pipe work from the second bath shower. He fixed the same and left. We then had to wait for several weeks for DR Horton to accept liability and complete the repairs to the ceiling. Another six months went by then the ceiling was down again. This time the other shower and the same issue. Again weeks until it was fixed. This went on through several further ceiling down / water leak issues all associated with very poor quality workman ship.

More recently we have suffered blown stuco to the rear upper wall of our home. Again DR Horton will not accept any liability for the failure even though we have had a independent evaluation of the workman ship, which has confirmed the original installation was again not to code. All DR Horton will say is

"NO WARRANTY IS AVAILABLE AS WE ARE THE SECOND OWNER, WARRANTY IS NOT TRANSFERABLE"

BUYER BEWARE, DR HORTON ARE A BUNCH OF SHISTERS, THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND NOT GIVE ANY CUSTOMER SERVICE IN RETURN

I too have a six year old Horton Home bought new in Eatonton Ga.I am in the process of retaining an attorney.

Roof has ten year warranty. Have bad leak in second and third bedroom closets. Horton said after a year I had to go to Owens Corning. Owen Corning said I had to hire someone to check it out and send several shingles to them for testing.

A process that will take up to six months. Then if it is a shingle defect they will replace them. that is all they will do. In the meantime the ceiling is about to cave in.

And we are trying to sell. Why should I havce to pay $$$$ to hire some one and then have to wait up to six months to have it fixed when it is under warranty? We were told 10 year warranty covers anything wrong with the roof.

OC says they will only cover it if it is a defective shingle. So yes I am in the process of suing both Horton and Owens.
