In these day and time it is hard to sell a home, and the worst part also is people will read all of these comments and they will stay away from D R Horton homes, they will know that something is wrong, why are you selling, they will say, all of this stuff is so true, I have a home, so far that only thing that is wrong with my home is the AC upstairs is no good and they will do nothing, I been there only 3 years, if we can sell we would and have another home built, but not by D R Horton, sometime I got a mind to go to there office and wait for people and say please don't do it, you will be sorry. Why can't we take them to court?

Guest

We are going through that right now! Our house is only 5 years old and the ac unit is fried!

The guy that came out to fix it said whoever designed the way it was installed did the worst job EVER!!!! Our master bedroom, which is downstairs and the farthest room from the unit, has the the smalles duct work going to it! Why? Who knows!!!!!

The grout in the kitchen along the walls is cracked.

Our windows leak constantly, so much that all the paint is peeling off the windowsills. Never again will I buy one of their homes!!!!

We purchased our DR Horton home in McLeansville, NC 5 years ago and there has not been a single day when it has not been problematic. We had bursted pipes from a closet installation on day 2!!

The kitchen floor had to be pulled up twice due to squeaks and cracks. The master bedroom developed a (growing) crack in the wall, the garage ceiling suddenly started leaking 8 weeks ago; and now there is a leak in an upstairs bedroom!!

Water caused driveway to collapse. Water pours from roof onto patio.

My driveway collapsed because water is not diverted correctly. Also washed away part of my yard. DR Horton came out and fixed the driveway and yard, but The water diversion is still incorrect. Also, water pours onto the patio because the roof, eves trough was built incorrectly. They said they would come back to fix it. I kept trying to get them to come out but now it's out of warranty and I'm out of luck. When I first complained about the roof, they did come out twice and fixed the screens, caulking and railing on the stairs and said they would come back to fix the roof, but never did.

Poor Quality

DR Horton is good a polishing a turd! Terrible construction, inside walls on 24" centers, holes in slab, plumbing lines missing the center of the wall causing wall to bow out, floorplate cuts around plumging lines from slab are not even, single 2X4's around doors and openings.

Sheating cuts look like my 10 year old son was building a tree house with scrap lumber.

Good selling programs, however the homes are of very POOR quality. Buyer beware, have it inspected by a reputable inspection company.

Everything is an add on, be careful with this builder, they will add alot of stuff and charge extra for it, that should be included already.

I have had so many problems with my dr horton home. First month i lived here a wood beam from my garage fell down.

a year later i had to replace the motor in the garage not covered of course.

Broken windows, broken roof tiles causing a leak in the ceiling, water heater problems, and now the main water valve is causing low water pressure in the home. I am very disappointed and very frustrated as a homeowner.

I don't like low quality projects...it's very risky. It was discussed in White Card Tasmania that quality shouldn't be put at risk.

Wow, you'd think that if you want a brand new home, choosing the right builder would be one of the most massively important decisions you'll ever make. With those thousands and thousands at stake, and your peace of mind as well.

So many people end up blowing it big time. Maybe you should have gone with an existing house.

Saves you a lot of these headaches. Oh well, its only money, and time heals all wounds, right.

Guest

Tell me about it. Bought mine in Vegas and within 14 months the back of the house started racking (leaning).

It finally stopped an inch to the North. Trapezoids is what I have for window and door frames. Looks like a fun house!

If you buy D R Horton you'll live like a ...... clown.

BE PREPARED TO BE UPSIDEDOWN ONCE YOU BUY A DR HORTON HOME

DR. HORTON will discount a home over $30,000 if it sits for a few months.

This is a great deal for some but a nightmare for those who build or buy their home as soon as they are finished.

Be prepared for your home to depreciate like a car if you buy a DR Horton Home.

DR HORTON has caused many local builders to pull out of neighboring subdivsions due to lowering property values to make a sale causing builders and consumes to be unable to sell their homes without taking a loss. Great deal for some a nightmare for most.

We purchased a DRHORTON home two years ago. I must say that we were satisfied with the customer service and our complaints being addressed.

Our biggest complaint is this nature easement behind the homes that should have been taken care of. We have a serious snake problem. Especially when it rains. My understanding is that DRHORTON was to take care of this like neighboring builders when they built homes, but DRHORTON did not.

Now the home owners are responsible for the up keep. IT IS BAD DANGEROUS AND A TERRIBLE SNAKE INFESTED EYE SORE.

We have to keep a close eye every time we step outside or at the door to go outside. WHEN IT RAINS THE SNAKES ARE OUT.

Havin alot of issues with our home as well....they gave us a GE dishwasher that has not worked right since we moved in...they keep giving me the run around and we are getting no where...theres a huge hole in the shower by the shower head which is still not fixed...the dividing walls in the back yard are so flimsy my dog ran right through it...the paint on the walls sucks..comes off if you wash with water...and we have children so we kinda need to wash walls...just very disapointed!

Buyer BEWARE...

Very disappointed with the construction of this house. Quality Control was terrible. Covered electrical outlets(several)we took photo's of framing and electrical and plumbing in stages, water leaks inside walls, doors that will not close (slowly swing open by themselves, hinge pins missing), shelves in cabinets NOT level and falling away from wall, paid for upgrade carpet, received cheap grade and hollow spots under wood flooring, insulation in walls upstairs constantly falling down, bathtub fixture loose and wobbly, recessed ceiling light fixtures falling down, I could go on. We sent registered, certified letters to D R Horton office advising and requesting them to remedy these problems. We NEVER received a single reply. During the final inspection we were unaware that we had to shake every tub fixture and open and close every door or inspect every cabinet for junk construction. We will NEVER purchase another D R Horton home again. Buyer BEWARE...

DR Horton Builders

In having to deal with D.R. Horton in the recent years, the Bay Area personel are in my opinion a bunch of ***. They love to walk over people and run a business practice that is so badly Managed especially the purchasing department & who doesn't know how to right a Contract which had to be provided and then they were behind on the production schedule so they made us out to be the bad guys... The production Manager Scott Johnson is another story...he almost got his *** kicked during a project walk due to his big mouth. All in all go with another builder unless you like dealing with ***.

They just sent me a real sarcastic marketing post card that read, "Thank you! I love getting your monthly rent check! Keep 'em coming! Your landlord".

This message rubbed me the wrong way. I know the value and advantages of home ownership. I don't need a smart *** from D.R. Horton to rub it in because I'm a renter.

I guess I'm going to get a card next year on Mother's Day that says, "HaHa, Your mom's dead and mine is doing great!"

That is a poorly thought out marketing strategy.

Guest

Had the same problems in Las Vegas. My house started to lean one inch to the North but Horton called the cracked sheetrock, nail pops, and trapezoidal windows/doors "cosmetic" defects.

Good thing I'm a lawyer and like dealing with ****. Do yourselves favors and don't buy a D R Horton.

Waco, didn't meet code

We built our house in 2009 in Waco, TX. The inspection before the recent sale of our home revealed two problems. First, there is no back-flow valve on the garbage disposal, second there is a screen on the dryer vent on the roof which catches lint. We have no way of checking or cleaning that screen and we must have a different type installed for the new owners. The inspector was surprised that our dryer worked at all well as it was clogged. Other than that he could find no problems. All in all a pretty good report, but I think you should get your own inspector before settling on your DR Horton home.

DR Horton sold it to me but won't support me

I purchased a brand new home in October 2010. As soon as the weather changed, the windows had and still have an unusually large amount of condesation. Mr. Kropp with DR Horton came to my home in December and said that due to the paint being new, that would cause some condensation and that it would get better over time. After he looked at how severe it was he did make the comment that is was a little more than normal and that they would monitor it.

It is now February 10, 2011 and the problem has only stayed the same or gotten worse in some rooms. Window seals are now molding. My bathroom wooden seal is startin to show separation because of the condensation being so great that it puddles in the left side of the window about 3 inches wide.

I placed another customer warranty complaint and Mr. Kropp decided to rescend on fixing my porch rails, my broken bathroom tile and only stated that these things along with the window condensation problem is not covered under warranty. This informtion was given to me by a customer service rep name Gayle since he could not call me himself with this change of information. I did ask for him to call me about this since she had nothing to do with it. I believe she told him and I am still waiting to hear from him.

The manufacturer of the windows is General Aluminum. R U HAVING THIS PROBLEM? PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I have pictures that I can email to anyon wanting to see the problem......HELP!! DR Horton won't!

DR Horton homebuilder cuts corners--skirts code

I am the original owner of a DR Horton house and have lived in it 8 years. Earlier this year, my hardwood flooring started to buckle as result of moisture coming into the house. Since I had lived here 8 years; DR Horton took no responsibility for the damage. I contacted a contractor--my back door was installed incorrectly by DR Horton and as result, water was coming in from behind the siding because DR Horton did not properly install the correct flashing. Given I live in Washington State, this is a critical issue. Needless to say, it cost me nearly $4000 to have it completely repaired and another $6000 (luckily my homeowners policy covered the floor) to replace my hardwood flooring. Additionally, I recently discovered a leak in my roof--which when inspected by a roofer with over 25 years experience, told me that the area where is was leaking was result of taking an shortcut that did NOT meet code. He indicated that most inspectors will NOT climb onto the roof to validate that the construction is correct--another example of DR Horton's obvious strategy to cut corners whenever they can. I have heard that large builders 'incent' code inspectors to 'look the other way'; I now believe it. I would NEVER buy a DR Horton home; I wouldn't trust them to build it corectly.

DR Horton-use cheap sub contractors

I live in a compex DR Horton built in Albuquerque NM and are only 6-8 years old. As with every pre inspection before signing and moving in, everything was wonderful. As with alot of these I have read, everything starts falling apart just after the warranty runs out. The subcontractors DR Horton used for the window installation, I do wonder if they knew what they wer doing to begin with. the windows dont close properly (all the way down), so you can lock them, some safety feature huh? It also leaves cracks at the bottom of the window so that you have to tape them up to keep the heat in and the cold out

DR Horton Co makes anonymous scam calls

I'm in Virginia. I have somehow gotten onto DL Horton's call scam list and receive numerous calls each week from numbers associated with them. I checked scammer lists, and the numbers are on it. These calls come from Bradenton, FL, and from TX. Once, a caller from DL Horton tried to "renew" magazine subscriptions I didn't have. I would avoid this company like the plague! These numbers are mostly associated with the area code 941, extension 896. Usually there's no one on the line when I say hello. Some of these scam calls say "DL Horton" and some say "Metro Media" and all appear to be in the same sequence of phone numbers. What they gain from this, I have no idea, but others complain of the same thing from these numbers. SCAMMERS! Steer clear.

Do Not Trust

DR Horton started to build our neighborhood and verbally told everyone moving in what style of home they were going to build and showed us the only 5 models available. They stopped building for a while and came back with the cheapest crappiest homes they could put in.

No one knew anything until the construction was well under way.

Our neighborhood was nice middle class with larger family sized homes. I have a three story 3,800 sq. ft.

home and they built a single story A-frame 1,300 sq. ft. home next door. Looks ridiculous.

I wouldn't build a shop on the side of my home that looks that bad.

Just be careful if you are buying a house in a neighborhood that isn't completed. They don't care once you give them the cash.

Cash is king to King Donald Horton. Like a thief, he will take your money and run.

Its the same story across the US. Just google our favorite builder and \'construction defect\' and the results will astound you.
