Heartless selling process *** near bankrupted me
Horton mortgage approved me knowing that I wouldn't be able to close if my home didn't sell. The sale of my home did fall thru and it was past the time for me to withdraw because of mortgage approval was already granted. In contacting them it was determined that I could only be approved with a relative cosigner - I had none available. Their solution then was to drop the price on the sale of my home $30,000 which would have then made it impossible for me to have enough equity to complete the purchase. Their response then was you have 30 days or lose your $15,000.
The heartless manner in which this was handled did result in my total loss. That plus other circumstances led to more than a $25,000 lost in what was to be my last move into a community which would have made my handicap condition bearable in my retirement years.
Carillon at Cambridge Lakes sales people were great until all went south then management took over and I was dead. I am glad that my dollar contributions will allow Horton to continue to thrive and survive. My suggestion is never put money down unless you are able to handle all without any additional pending funds needed. Since prices had raised since my purchase, my completed home will be sold above my purchase price therefore you would think that at least partial refund coul be made available. Again big always wins!

Secondary drainage AC
The house was built very fast, and the home inspection didnt reveal the secondary pan damage. Im in contact with the builder and he is willing to meet mr to inspect thiis issue.
My stucco since this drainage has happened is damaging my exterior and growing mold, the pipe is roughly 1 inch ftom the frame of the house, i think it should be further away so that this water never touches the house.
Im keeping my fingers crossed that they will help me, I purchased this new construction 3 years ago. They have been very helpful with all the other issues and the service has been great, DR Horton is a great builder and i hope they keep their integrity.

Deceptive sales practices and fraud
D. R.
Horton built my new Energy Star Certified home and chose to eliminate key elements of the system. After multiple requests they have not supplied me with an Energy Star report on my home. I have found that they secretly eliminate Energy Star key elements like properly sized HVAC system and they have eliminated the fresh air inlet which exchanges the stale air in a "tightly sealed" home. When I brought this HEALTH HAZARD to they're attention they said "you don't need it, and most people don't like it".
So they're saying that most people like breathing contaminated are? I will fight for my rights! They advertise a fresh are system in they're sales office and it is a requirement in order to be Energy Star Certified!
I have also experienced deceptive practices with my basement and the electrical wiring of my home. When I caught them they acted surprised but gave in and provided the proper home wiring at no extra cost.
Buyer BEWARE
Buyer BEWARE!!!!!! I am having a home built by DR Horton in Huntsville and it has been one nightmare after another.
First of all, the people at DR Horton will lie to you all along the way to try and cover their mistakes. I've contacted their corporate office but they fail to respond. The sales person has blown so much smoke up my *** and refuses to have the building superintendent call me when I have found some serious problems with the building process. I'm due to do my walk thru this coming Monday and walked in the house tonight to see how it looks only to find plumbers in the house with large holes cut in the walls.
The reason, they can't get water to the kitchen or upstairs shower. Go figure!!!! They wait until two weeks to close and begin tearing the house apart to try and find what is wrong. I sent a message to the girl who works for DR Horton telling her to have the Superintendant call me immediately but as usual, she fails to respond and won't give me his number.
I ask one of the plumbers what is going on and why they have waited so long to fix the problem when we are doing a walk thru Monday. His response, "well, you've got to have water." It's all I could do to tell him where he could put the water. I asked him for the superintendants number knowing he has it but once again I'm lied to and he said he didn't have his number. This has gone on thru the building process.
If you plan to buy thru DR Horton, good luck getting the truth when you ask a question. I'm getting ready to dump this house in their lap unless they discount the house quite a bit knowing there have been so many problems. I will no doubt contact the local media to ensure they warn buyers about their building practices. My step father built custom homes when he was alive and working and I never saw anything like this.
So I suggest you use caution if you intend to build or buy an existing home with DR Horton. I have checked this house every single day during the building process, and the girl who does the sales has made excuses every time I found a problem, and there have been many. I'm sure they will try to delete this post so I will have a copy for the local newspaper if they do, and for the local news investigative reporter. Oh, and I forgot to mention they nickel and dime you for everything.
I looked in the kitchen sink after it was installed and they asked if I paid for one…lol. They charge extra for each and every thing you get in the house.

Repairs done while under warranty
Just a quick reminder of anyone who is buying from D.R Horton. We bought a model home and were very excited when we moved in.
It took just a few months before we knew we were going to be in a fight to get repairs done. From what they told us they said model homes do not come with a warranty so I had to show them our contract to show them we do have a 2 year warranty. You tell right rom the start they never wanted to help us we had to get after them to do almost every repair and there were a lot. The last one we needed done was some stucco in the back of our home.
They sent out their experts and they told us it was coming from under the stucco on how it was done and needed to be done. We were still under warranty and they said it would be this spring. We never heard from them till after the warranty expired but they said it still would be taken care of. They sent the man in charge out later and he denied the repair even though their experts told us in fall it needed to be done.
I have never been so upset. I have had 2 other new homes and have never had such horrible help on repairs.
All I can say new buyers beware you will be in for a new experience with D.R Horton as they try to get out of everything. I would never recommend them to anyone.
- No action on promises

Preferred solution: Come and fix the problem your experts told us needed to be done and quit letting Dave Hall make all the decisions on what is or is not to be done
Dr Horton - Warranty Review from Winston Salem, North Carolina
I have been in my home 4 years and noticed a large crack in the floor. Contacted the warranty company provided by the builder nothing done.
It is a crime and pity that a working class person is ripped off this way.
I totally regret the purchase of this home. Please do not buy a house from these blood sucking crooks.

in the picture I noticed the patio umbrella and satellite dish installed. Were there people already living in the townhouse at the tile the picture was taken? just curious as I do not see any vinyl or aluminum sofits installed.
