Dr Horton - Failure to refund earnest money
I made a deposit on a new home on July 19,2016. on the 20th they informed me that my credit would not qualify for a mortgage.
one day later, after telling me they couldn't help me, they deposited the check and pulled money from my account. Since then i have been trying to get a refund of my deposit to no avail. i called the rep Josh Bridges, for his assistance as he told me the day i did the contract, that if they couldn't write my loan, that i could get a refund the very next day from the local office in Orlando. This turned out to be a bold face lie.
when i called him for a refund he told me "it had to go through channels". It is now August 2nd, and they won't even return my phone calls after numerous calls to their office. Their customer service is non existent. I can't believe a company of this magnitude would screw over a retired veteran or anyone.
Buyer definately beware of D.

I totally agree. I feel sad for you.
I am so surprised that such a BIG Home Builder and with so much prestige (According to them) would hold $1000.00. This is a crying shame and provides a bad reputation for DR Horton.
Question has anyone gotten their earnest deposit back from DR Horton?
No. I am still waiting since August 1, 2018.
Standard scam with this organization and their mortgage associate. As hundreds of others have said...stay away from this outfit.
Horton's mortgage company was pushed for me to go through which I attempted to do. Excellent credit but after two months of endless documentations...some provided as many as three times, they would not deny the loan...they just wouldn't approve it.
Suggested a locale where they could shove their existence. They refused to return $5,000 earnest money. Six weeks later I was in a new home (different builder) with mortgage quickly approved by lender recommended by realtor.
Stay away from anything remotely associated with Horton.
Do not use their lender, or attorney. It is a conflict of interest. It is NOT worth any incentive offered.
Seems to me you have been lazy. You should have checkedout your loan ability before going into the marketplace.
If you read the contract, it takes 30-days to get your refund. Also your credit must be in the tank, to get turned down within days of signing a contract.
This is something you should know ahead of time. Typical lazy consumer.
Nice ***
Wtf , lol not everyone is lazy
